Methods per market

Lead with what each country pays with.

Set one default order, then let each market put its local favorite first: Pix in Brazil, iDEAL in the Netherlands, Apple Pay in the US. The checkout reads the shopper's country and rearranges itself, in their language and currency.

  • Market overrides on top of one default order
  • Methods hidden where they are not offered
  • Local currency and language from the same config
  • Preview any market before you publish

Display rules

Rules you can read, not code you maintain.

Decide when a method appears and where it goes with conditions on country, amount, currency and device. Rules run top to bottom on every checkout session, so you can always tell why a shopper saw what they saw.

  • Conditions on country, amount, currency and device
  • First match wins; a fallback row always applies
  • Route each method to the account you choose
  • Test a rule against sample sessions before it goes live

Brand it

Your colors, your corners, your type.

Start from a preset or match your store: accent color, corner radius and font apply to the hosted page and the embedded form alike. A new theme stays a draft until you publish it, and wallet buttons keep the look their brands require.

  • Presets for light, dark and your own brand
  • Accent, radius and font as three tokens
  • Contrast checked against WCAG AA as you edit
  • One theme for hosted and embedded checkout
AppearanceDraft · not published

Northlight's checkout theme, explored as a draft that is not published: the live checkout keeps the SparkIO default theme. Pick a preset, corner style and font and the checkout preview updates. Contrast is checked against WCAG AA as you change it.

Test before you publish

Try the change on half your traffic first.

Run a new order or a new method as an experiment. Sessions are split, each shopper keeps the variant they saw first and conversion counts paid checkouts only. Promote the winner to a draft when the numbers are in.

  • Split by checkout session, sticky per shopper
  • Conversion measured on paid checkouts, not clicks
  • Stop an experiment at any time
  • Promote the winning variant in one click

Versions and rollback

Every publish is a version you can undo.

Each publish records who changed what and when. Compare a version with the one before it and roll back in one click; shoppers already in checkout finish on the version they started with.

  • Full history with author and changes
  • Rollback is itself a new version, never a rewrite
  • Sessions in progress keep their version
  • Drafts never reach shoppers until you publish
VersionsNorthlight checkout

Version history of Northlight's checkout, newest first. Select a version to see what changed; any older version can be rolled back, which publishes its settings as a new version.

History

v12Pix first in Brazil

Theo Grant · Mon, Oct 19 · 16:40

Changes from v11

  • Pix first when order country is Brazil (was 3rd)
  • Pix code expires after 30 min (was 60 min)

New sessions get v12's settings as v14. Shoppers already in checkout finish on v13.

Also in every checkout

The details shoppers never think about.

Switched on for every checkout the studio publishes, hosted or embedded.

  • Localized copy

Labels, totals and error messages in the shopper's language, with local number, date and address formats.

  • Accessible by default

Keyboard paths, screen-reader labels and AA contrast, checked again on every theme you publish.

  • 3‑D Secure built in

Risk-based 3-D Secure 2 runs inside the checkout, with the frictionless flow whenever the issuer allows it.

  • Address autocomplete

Shoppers type a few characters and pick their address, formatted the way their country writes it.

  • Saved cards

Returning shoppers pay with a card saved once in SparkVault, on any of your checkouts.

Questions

Questions about the checkout studio.

Do I need a developer to change the checkout?
Not for day-to-day changes. Turning methods on, reordering them, routing rules and theming are done in the studio and go live when you publish. A developer adds the hosted page, the embedded form or the headless API to your site once.
Does it work with embedded and headless checkout?
Yes. The hosted page and the embedded form read the published configuration directly. A headless integration receives the same order and rules with each checkout session, so your own UI shows the right methods without a release.
What happens to shoppers who are mid-checkout when I publish?
They finish on the version they started with. New checkout sessions get the new version as soon as it is published, and a rollback works the same way.
How are rules evaluated?
Top to bottom, once per checkout session. The first rule whose conditions all match decides; when none match, the “All other conditions” row applies, so every method always has a route.
Can I keep my own Klarna or PayPal accounts?
Yes. Connect your existing accounts per region and route each method to the one you choose. Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are acquired by SparkIO and settle into your balance.
How do experiments split traffic?
By checkout session, 50/50 unless you set another split. A shopper who comes back sees the variant they saw first, and only paid checkouts count as conversions.
